C&V (Condition & Value) Surveys
There are two general purposes for a C&V marine survey.
One marine survey purpose is to obtain insurance on your vessel. This is known as a Marine Risk or insurance survey. It is most often used when a vessel owner's insurance company requests a marine survey to obtain or renew the vessel's insurance. It may also be used when an owner is refinancing a vessel.
Another Marine Survey purpose is prior to purchasing a vessel. This is known as a Prepurchase or buyer's survey. This marine survey is used in the decision making process by the prospective new owner, and may also be provided to a financial / lending institution (and to an insurance company) for mortgaging and insuring the vessel.
As noted, both type C&V marine surveys may be used as an appraisal survey by various financial and lending institutions.
While both C&V marine surveys employ the same general inspection techniques, the Prepurchase Survey is a more extensive survey.
Links to a sample C&V survey report are provided at the bottom of the Marine Risk and Prepurchase pages.
All Marine Survey Reports are typically delivered as a PDF via email unless a different delivery method requested.
