Mike Beijar Marine Surveyor
Survey Fees
For all C&V (Condition and Value) surveys, the fee will be quoted as a flat, or fixed rate, fee. The survey fee will be quoted only to the commissioning party (the purchaser or duly authorized representative in the case of a Prepurchase survey).
The fee quoted will typically include one trip to the vessel. Additional trip(s) to complete the inspection, not caused by the surveyor, will be charged at our regular hourly rate in effect at the time of the additional trip(s). Any interruption of the onsite survey or delay of the onsite survey, not caused by the surveyor, will incur an additional fee at our regular hourly rate in effect at the time of the onsite survey for the duration of the interruption or delay.
While initial Condition & Value inspections or appraisals are made on a flat fee basis, post survey inspections, consultations, or appearances will be billed at our regular hourly rate in effect at the time of the service.
As to sampling for fluid analysis (typically for Prepurchase Surveys), if this surveyor extracts the samples, this surveyor will send those samples to the laboratory and the commissioning party will then consult directly with the laboratory as to the analysis of the samples. This surveyor is not involved in the analysis of the samples. The fluid sampling request should be made at the time of first contact so that sample kits may be provided and their cost communicated to the commissioning party. If a mechanical survey will be conducted, that technician may prefer to provide sample kits to the commissioning party. The commissioning party is encouraged to discuss mechanical surveys and fluid analysis with the surveyor at the time of first contact.
The type of C&V survey (Prepurchase, Marine Risk or Appraisal), the location of the vessel, its size, age and type will become the ingredients in my determining the flat rate fee. When you inquire as to the cost of a marine survey, please be sure to include the type of survey as well as the vessel information and its location.
The commissioning party is responsible for all payments to the surveyor. This payment is required at the time of the initial onsite inspection unless other terms are approved in advance by the surveyor.
There may be other fees involved in the survey process not accruable to this surveyor. Those fees may include, but are not limited to, a captain for the trial run, a haulout for a bottom inspection and perhaps for bottom cleaning to facilitate the bottom inspection, for mechanical, electrical or rigging surveys, etc. There may be other unknown fees not accruable to this surveyor.
For any post C&V consultations, including inspection or reinspection of repairs, litigation, etc., hourly rates will accrue in the same manner as described below.
For new construction surveys, damage surveys, consultations, and the like, the survey fee is an hourly billing for any and all work performed (office or field work, travel time, report writing, depositions, trial, etc.). That hourly rate will be quoted to the client at the time of the assignment. A retainer is typically required and additional payments may be required at regular intervals during the work.
Again, the commissioning party is responsible for all payments to the surveyor.
